Louis D. Nettles
- Louis has been trying cases in South Carolina since he was admitted
to the South Carolina Bar in November 1979 after receiving his Juris
Doctor degree from the University of South Carolina in May of that year.
He also earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration
(Accounting) from the U.S.C in 1976.
- Louis was admitted to practice in the United States District Court
for the District of South Carolina in 1982 and the United States Court
of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in 1983.
- Louis was privileged to learn the art of trial practice from his
father, John L. (Jack) Nettles with whom we practiced from 1979 until
2002.
- Louis completed the National Institute for Trial Advocacy Advanced
Trial Advocacy Program in 1989 and has completed the S.C. Bar Mediation
Training Program.
- Louis' practice areas include • Personal Injury • Insurance
Law • Business Litigation - including Shareholder Litigation • Real
Estate Litigation. He has tried more than three hundred civil jury
trials in Florence, Marion, Darlington, Dillon, Marlboro, and
Williamsburg counties, as well as in the federal courts.
- Louis gave his blood to the American Red Cross for 29 years
and his sweat as Chairman of the Board of the Florence County Chapter
when Hurricane Hugo hit Florence County in 1989; fortunately, no tears
were required. He has also served two terms as Chairman of the Board of
the Florence Area Literacy Council. He supported the work of Habitat for
Humanity in Florence County and was also a member of the Florence
Toastmasters Club for 25 years.
- He has served the Bar as a member of the Resolution of Fee
Disputes Board, Twelfth Judicial Circuit Panel since 2000 and a Judge of
the Mock Trial Competitions
- Louis volunteered his time as a member of the Legal Advisory
Board, Journal of Controversial Medical Claims, Aspen Publishers, Inc
(formerly Hippocrates Lantern) from 2001 to2005.
