Philip B. Atkinson
- Philip received his Juris Doctor degree in law from the University of South
Carolina in 1999. To build a foundation in law upon a thorough
understanding of the entire judicial system, Philip had previously received his
Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of South Carolina in 1996, graduating
cum
laude with honors.
- He is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association and admitted to practice in all
State and Federal Courts in South Carolina . Philip is a former contract Public Defender from Greenwood
County and has substantial experience in handling criminal court
matters, including juveniles charged with crimes. His
practice areas now include Family Court issues, such as divorce and adoption, as
well as Worker's Compensation, personal injury, and criminal cases.
- Philip is an active member of the South Carolina Claimants' Attorney
Association and the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association. Philip, as a member of the Marion Rotary Club,
serves as its Chairman of the Program Committee and coordinates its
International Student Exchange. He is committed to the
club's ideal of
placing "service (to the community) above self". Since serving as an
assistant to the South Carolina Gamecock coaching staff during the record
breaking 1994 season (culminating in U.S.C.'s first bowl win), Philip has stayed
active in football by serving
as the stadium announcer for the State Champion Greenwood Eagles and the Marion
Swamp Foxes. He is currently President of the Marion High School Booster
Club.
- Philip was born and raised in Marion, SC and is a member of Marion Baptist
Church where he serves as a deacon. He and his wife, Allie, are the proud
parents of a beautiful and headstrong kindergartner, Abby. The family resides in
Marion with their calico
cat, Sadie. Philip will be paying back student loans until the year 2010,
at which time he will finally take a real vacation!
