Philip B. Atkinson
- Philip received his Juris Doctor degree in law from the University
of South Carolina in 1999 after previously earning a Bachelor of Science
degree in Criminal Justice there in 1996, graduating cum laude with
honors. He has trained at the prestigious NITA Trial Institute and is a
certified Family Court Mediator. Philip has also received extensive
training every year since 2003 in children's issues to maintain his
status as a highly sought after Guardian ad Litem - protecting
the interests of young children of divorce.
- He is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association, distinguished
by his position in its House of Delegates. Philip is admitted to
practice in all State and Federal Courts in South Carolina. He has also
been recognized by the State Supreme Court for his service as an
Attorney to Protect Client Interests. He is a former contract Public
Defender from Greenwood County and has substantial experience in
handling criminal court matters. His practice areas primarily include
Family Court issues (such as divorce and adoption), Worker's
Compensation, Personal Injuries, and Criminal cases.
- Philip is an active member of the South Carolina Association for
Justice. He has served on the board of Marion County's United Fund and
the Pee Dee Mental Health Association. Philip is the current Vice
Chairman of the Marion County Zoning Commission. His criminal case
experience lead to his appointment to the Twelfth Circuit Public
Defender Selection Panel. Philip is also a member of the Marion Rotary
Club, serving as Chairman of its Program Committee and coordinating its
International Student Exchange Program. He is committed to the club's
ideal of placing "service (to the community) above self".
- Since serving as an equipment manager for the South Carolina
Gamecock coaching staff during the record breaking 1994 season
(culminating in U.S.C.'s first bowl win), Philip has stayed active in
athletics by serving as the stadium announcer for the Greenwood Eagles
and the Marion Swamp Foxes. He is a former President and an active
member of the Marion High School Booster Club. He is also the Financial
Officer for Marion's Post 5 State Champion Junior Legion Baseball team.
- Philip was born and raised in Marion, SC and is a member of Marion
Baptist Church where he serves as a deacon, trustee, moderator, and
Sunday School teacher. Philip and his wife, Allie, are the proud parents
of a beautiful and vibrant daughter currently in middle-school. He
enjoys reading, playing guitar, traveling, and spending time with his
wife and daughter.
